Exercise in close up

This is one of my first experiments using the Minolta Autocord close up lenses. Taken on a campground at the Grand Canyon north rim during our 2007 road trip. Provia 100 again.

The many faces of Yellowstone

After spending several days in California with clear blue sky every day, having a few clouds was appreciated.  This is probably not a common place to stop and take a picture in Yellowstone – but I am glad I did.  I enjoy the texture and depth of the water in this picture and examining how different the dark blue of the water is from the blue of the sky.  There is depth in the clouds also and hills in the distance.  If you look closely you can see a bird flying in the middle of the picture, with blurred wings.

USA Small town alley

A small town in Utah.  The electric wiring in these alleys can be quite creative.  This would not last one week here in Iceland!

One of the few Porta 160 NC films I have shot.  For some reasons I had a trouble getting accurate colors with negative films so for the most part I have shot Provia on my Autocord.

Doing the laundry while others play

This picture is taken on my first trip to the Mazahua Valley. We visited a small church where I delivered a short sermon.  I still remember the sermon.  It was on Romans chapter 7 and how we can find ourselves utterly incapable of doing what is good or making a positive move forward.

Then we had some free time to walk around. This girl captured my attention. She was quite busy doing the laundry and did not look up until I said hi – as she did I released the shutter on the Autocord.

There is something about the expression on her face.  I wonder where she is now and how her life is turning out?

Provia 100 film.  It was quite sunny – probably I jused F16 and 1/250.

Fuji Acros 100 film, box speed. F4 and speed close to 1/25. Developed in HC-110 8 1/2 min @ 21°C Agitated every 30 sec for ca.3 sec. Happy New Year everyone!

The straw stands out II

This is part II of an earlier post.  Exploring simplicity.  Doing photography with the attitude of finding a beautiful frame by looking carefully and creatively around you where you are present in the moment – this is what I enjoy exploring.

Narrow view of the Grand Canyon

Naturally we made a point to see the Grand Canyon on our road trip, north rim. It did not meet my expectations – probably because the place we where at did not offer the best possible view.

I found myself trying out a different kind of framing through the Autocord as looking at the canyon view through the Autocord viewfinder was not coming up with anything interesting.  At the viewpoint over the canyon, I noticed these two rocks so close together, yet so different, and the canyon in the distance between them.

Yosemite beauty

There is much beauty in Yosemite.  I like the colors in this picture – the blue sky, gray mountains, green fields, dark river.  The Provia film delivers well.

If you have not taken a good road trip around the south west USA – I would strongly encourage you to do so – and do plan to have some time to hike.
