I'm an Icelandic cowboy
Our first place of sightseeing during our road trip was at the Great sand dunes. We arrived at the camp ground late in the evening. The morning after we planned to go to the sand, but found ourselves in a sandstorm – the wind was really blowing that day.
As we drove through town we found this original leather store. My brother Thor had as one of his goals to buy an original outfit – here was his chance to become an Icelandic cowboy.
Shot on Porta 160 NC – enjoy!

Pickup truck for sale
I like this green pickup truck. Saw this truck in 2006 driving west of the Twin Cities MN.
This picture is taken on Fuji Superia – was trying that film out. I was surprised to see how sharp this picture turned out (not fully delivered in this smaller web-format). I ended up using Fuji Provia as my main film – but I did have a few nice negative pictures like this one.

This post is the second in a series called “The Autocord Interview.” Click here to read what the Autocord Interview is about.
Name: Wan Khaidir Wan.Hashim
Country: Malaysia
City: Kuala Terengganu
Profession: 3D Animator and amateur photographer
Website(s):
How did you become interested in photography and why?
I was always fascinated with photography and always loved taking pictures… but never really thought of photography. I only became much more serious about photography in 2008 when I purchased my first digital SLR (Nikon D80). About a year ago my sister gave me her 35 mm manual film SLR camera (Nikon FM10). I fell in love with this camera immediately and started enjoying film photography. I decided to look for a new camera with a new challenge. After 2 months of trying hard I had my first medium format camera, Minolta Autocord.
How did you discover the Autocord?
When I decided to get myself a medium format camera, the collector offered me 3 different models of TLR. After some research, Minolta Autocord is a pretty good budget choice for me and it is a worthy contender among several others.
Where did you buy your Autocord and for how much ($)?
My internet’ friend introduce me to a vintage camera collector in Kuala Lumpur & it cost me RM600 (USD 200) after a great bargain.
What are some of your favorite features about the Autocord?
The lens was certainly sharp enough, & producing a lovely focus & the swirl bokeh.
I liked the unique index finger focusing, which moved easily below the taking lens.
The shutter button to be use with shutter release cable is very useful for long exposed shots or slow shutter and the shutter & aperture meter displayed in the small windows above the lens is my great favorite features about the Autocord.
What has worked best for you in the process of developing and scanning film?
I have never developed or process the film, I just send it to pro lab to develop it and then I scanned the film with my Canoscan 8800f,
but I think Epson v700 is the best to scan a film.
Any future plans or dreams in photography?
- Roleiflex 2.8
- Hasselblad
- Large Format (hopefully) ;-D
Any final word/comments?
Thanks to autocord.com and fellow Autocorde – Agust Olafsson – to have viewed my autocord photos and given me a chance with this interview to share my experience with other fellow Autocorde.

Lake Tahoe Golden light on John
Some of the highlights of our road trip in June 2007 involved those times we went to the beach.
We camped at South Lake Tahoe friendly campground. It was surprising to discover what kind of tourism and gambling was going on, driving into town on our second day.
It was not particularly warm as we went to the beach, but the late afternoon sun was great for taking pictures.

Fruits of abuse
During our road trip, we noticed a connection between land quality outside the car windows and what the maps said. Quite frequently, if the land seemed harsh and hard to use, we found ourselves to be on an Indian reservation when we looked at the map. Many tribes and nations around the globe have suffered tremendously as “superior” people have abused them – and simply the stress of being rushed into a new era has often serious side effects as old ways of defining identity have to be reinvented.
This has been the case for the Inuits, Indians and in my opinion I see some of this even with the Icelandic people which I am a native of. When the last 70 years of Icelandic history is observed the case for this can be argued.
This picture was taken as we took off on a side road to take a series of 35mm pictures of my brother Thor in his newly bought cowboy suit. Provia 100, F8 1/250.
