Summer 2007 the family, with my younger brother Thor, took a road trip from Minnesota – California and back – with many stops in between 🙂 It was a great trip with fantastic scenery.
At one point we camped at a campground located approximately half way between Bryce and Zion national parks. Day one we went to Zion, day two Bryce.
Thor and I decided to wake up before sunset to catch Bryce as the sun was coming up. I made a mistake on the alarm so we showed up about 2 hours BEFORE sunrise – but we had much fun nonetheless.
After a while we met another photographer there. He asked us where we were from. When we said “Iceland” he paused for a moment, and then asked: “Well what are you doing here?!?” His point being that Iceland is the photographers heaven because of both scenery and fantastic bright and clear light.
One of the great things about photography is that basically every place has potential for taking great pictures. The question is how much creativity and courage the photographer has.
I am quite pleased with this photograph of Bryce. I have others that catch more of the typical overall perspective – I prefer this one.
Sometime I would like to go back and hike down there.
